Beauty Photographer & Retoucher.
Corporate products and services: I am a beauty photographer and retoucher. I create high-end images of beauty and cosmetic products.
How I help you
One service I provide as a corporate photographer is capturing products and services for business and industry. One example is beauty photography. My services as a beauty photographer can make a big difference to you in three ways.
- High-end images. Top-quality beauty images that present your products in the best light.
- Beauty retouch. Quality retouching to naturally enhance your images.
- Team approach. I work alongside a hairstylist and make-up artist.
Case Study: NicMac Beauty
Nicola McFarlane created her brand NicMac Beauty when she could not find what she wanted. Makeup in the palette she wanted, plus products that met her values.
Her requirements included:
- A company that was conscious of its impact on the environment
- Products developed with an animal-friendly approach
- A range that offered flexibility and choice to the customer
- Vegan-friendly products
Nicola saw a gap in the market. Motivated by her values, she created a business that met her exacting standards.
NicMac Beauty offers a fantastic range of high-quality beauty products. Her range meets high ethical standards when it comes to her core values.
The NicMac Range
Reducing the environmental impact was the first step.
The core product is a mix-and-match palette. This cardboard palette holder replaces the plastic palette used by many other brands.
The design of this recyclable palette is to hold removable colour pods. This contrasts a fixed plastic palette with inset colours. Customers choose a range that is unique to their own tastes. They pick what they want in their own palette. The complete NicMac product line is vegan-friendly and has not been animal tested.
NicMac Beauty launched to rave reviews. Customers shared Nicola's desire for top-quality makeup and a clear conscience. The tagline for the company, "Make Up With The World," certainly feels appropriate.
Getting the Right Image
Beauty photography is a specialist niche within commercial photography. Technically it is demanding, and the standard of retouching required is also high.
For NicMac, the look and feel of the brand needed to be reflected in its images. NicMac employs light pastel colours.
The makeup itself must jump out of the image as vibrant and saturated. There would also be product shots of the colours as well as the cardboard palettes, both empty and full.
An area of discussion was the processing of the skin of the models. Traditionally, beauty photography (and in particular, makeup) is processed to perfection. Flawless skin, seamless transitions between shows and light, and, of course, beautiful models. There has been a growing trend to move away from this to a more natural style of beauty photography.
To fit in with the values and brand of the company, we decided that processing should be "natural". In retouching terms, this equates to minor dodge and burn while retaining skin tone. This means the reduction of skin colour variation without creating plastic people!
The models used were friends of owner Nicola. Both had beautiful natural skin to start with, making my job much easier.
All images were captured in a single day: product, scene, and facial shots. An edited bank of images was created for Nicmac Beauty. They can use these final images across their marketing campaigns.
