Top Business Directors: Open House Events
As a corporate photographer, I get to cover a wide variety of events and conferences. The Institute of Directors organised both national and regional events called "Open House". The aim was to help British business boardrooms make a greater impact.
The "Open House" events covered three core themes. These themes feature on the agendas of every top business leader.
- Having a global outlook
- Being connected, and
- Being inclusive
It has been an honour to provide official event photos for each of the London conferences. Plus some regional ones too! Each theme premiered in London and then toured the country region by region.
These events were created for forward-thinking business leaders across the UK. Every event provided the opportunity to learn and network. Attendees were from the UK and along with some of the business world’s greatest thought leaders.
Each event incorporated collaborative learning activities alongside inspirational presentations. Consequently, delegates were well prepared for what may be around the next business corner. In conclusion, adding great food and social networking made these events essential!

Open House: Client Expectations
For me, covering an event means capturing the big story, as well as the emotion and context of the experience. For the Open House series, my brief was to include branding, sponsors, and VIPs alongside interested delegates at the venue.
The images I capture serve many purposes for an event such as the Open House series.
My client wants a record of the event
Images can be used for announcements, web and print articles, as well as press releases. These images are used for advertising future similar events. By capturing a range of diversity, speakers, topics and venues they are then useful for a wider range of materials.
The delegates who attend conferences also want images
Delegates want to download, share, and post images of themselves. They want images of famous speakers, colleagues, and experiences they have at an event.
This is why I also provide a LIVE gallery for delegates to download during the event itself.
Making photos available to attendees makes a difference to the event organiser. With no charge, delegates produce much more social media traffic.
Images are not just for social media. My images are also used for regional news, company pages, and even national magazines. This is in part because they are able to download it there and then. The event (and hopefully me too) gets credited with raising the profile of the original client.
My Personal Agenda
I love conferences, particularly as I learn so much from the speakers! The other aspect of this kind of corporate photography is that I can capture people in a creative way. This is my challenge for every event: the alternative story of the human condition.
